Video and Interview on Coastal Erosion in Alaska

This article from the New York Times includes a pretty dramatic (and alarming) time-lapse video of erosion along Alaska’s northern coast (the Beaufort Sea) over a one month period in 2008.  You can see some of the processes described in Chapter 10 of our text, but they are happening very quickly because the material being eroded is frozen silt that is melting as well as being eroded by waves.  The question-and-answer format of the article will help students to understand what they are seeing and why erosion is happening so quickly here.

Great link. Erosion and climate change are always a hot topics in the Arctic regions. UAF just got a $ 20 Mil NSF grant to explore interdisciplinary the effects of change in the Arctic.
