Just to Clear the Atmosphere…

While trolling through the free lesson plans at another  paysite, I found a usable lesson plan on air pollution. It’s geared for grades 7-8 but could be easily tweaked, and the milkweed activity at the end could be adjusted for place-based effect. If your looking to start from scratch, Windows to the Universe has a bunch of info above and beyond what was covered in our text. You could farm some extra info and pictures for an atmosphere or weather lesson, or perhaps assign students to pick one of the topics (like Kelvin-Helmholtz clouds) and do an end-of-unit project.

The space shuttle hasn't actually cleared the atmosphere in this picture. The picture was taken within the thermosphere, the layer of atmosphere between the mesosphere and exosphere..
