See Sea Ice

NASA captures images every day of the Arctic sea ice. This is the sea ice on January 31, 1979

This is the sea ice on January 31, 2012

NASA has been obtaining satellite images of the arctic sea ice since 1979.   The images here  compare the ice cap in 1979 and 2011 at the same time period to show the dramatic melting of the sea ice.   The bright white shows the ice that has survived more than 2 years, and that is what is dramatically shrinking.   Showing students these images can start a discussion on global climate change, shrinking sea ice, and impacts on the environment.
