Bore Tides

This is a link to the Alaska Public Lands Information Centers’s website that gives a brief description of bore tides: what they are and why they form in some parts of Alaska.  After my students develop a good understanding of tidal activity, I would teach a mini-lesson on bore tides, as they pertain specifically to our geographic location (and many of my students are likely to see one in their lifetime!).  Below are pictures of a bore tide that I saw upon first moving to Alaska.  This is in Turnagain Arm, just outside of Anchorage on the drive to the Kenai Peninsula.
