More on Coastal Erosion

We lived in Kotzebue, 30 miles above the Arctic Circle, for 17 years and saw first hand the effects of climate change and coastal erosion. With the ice freezing later in the Fall and thawing sooner in the Spring, wave action took a greater toll on the coast. This was compounded in areas that were underlain by permafrost. I took these pictures below and you can see the massive chunks of earth and permafrost that have calved onto the beach below.
