A map showing the flooded zones of Fairbanks in 1967 is available for viewing at https://www.co.fairbanks.ak.us/communityplanning/1967FloodExtentMapUSGS.jpg. I imagine there has to be hard copy of this map available somewhere, but I’m still looking. It might be really fun to have students put a dot where they live and look as a class if we would have been affected by the flood.
Students could try to interview someone who remembers the Fairbanks flood of 1967 to find out what happened to our city, people’s homes, and people’s lives. Articles about the Chena Flood Plane often refer to the 1967 flood and it’s effects.
