Flooding in AK

Well, I suppose it is a no brainer that most flooding occurs in the spring. As rivers break up, ice jams often occur and villages along the river can quickly become flooded. Sometimes you get flash floods as well. I imagine that many of you remember the border guard who passed away this summer near Eagle during a severe storm. That same storm stranded people along the highway because of a bridge washout.
The primary hazards with flooding in AK are that the floods occur quickly, people often have little warning that they are coming because there aren’t many villages upriver, and the effects of flooding are compounded when the village is remote. I found an interesting site https://www.flood.alaska.gov/
which gives a lot of info. on past and current flood conditions.
